How to obtain Italian citizenship through marriage- legal advice
Italian citizenship by marriage
The foreign or apolid spouse of an Italian citizen can obtain Italian citizenship (if he or she does not belong to any exclusion case) in any of the following cases:
- Having legally lived in Italy (Italian Republic) at least for 2 years after marriage
- After being married for at least 3 years (residence abroad)
Pay attention:
Timeframes are reduced by half in the presence of children born or adopted by the spouses.
At the moment of issue of the decree of recognition of Italian citizenship marriage must still be valid, separation of the spouses cannot exist at that moment to validate Italian citizenship.
